7.600 students will perform human symbols

7.600 students from 19 school centers in A Coruña celebrate the school day for Peace and Nonviolence by making human symbols for Peace or Nonviolence with their students and the Tower of Hercules will look blue that day.

On January 30, at the international level, it is dedicated to commemorate in the educational centers “a culture of Peace and Nonviolence” and 19 schools in A Coruña will celebrate this year within the framework of the international tour that a team of people are doing to throughout our planet from 02/10/19 to 08/03/20.

The last 3 months have been working to finalize this action with the education sector and this collaborative action was made public through a press conference at the City Council.

The Councilor for Education, Jesús Celemín, explained: «An education without values ​​is an education without meaning, poor and without any referent. Thanks to the teachers, directors and directors, better people are obtained, capable of acquiring knowledge and a good preparation for the future».

The spokeswoman for the second World March in the city, Marisa Fernández, valued the active participation of the students because "without them it would not be possible" and spoke of the fact that the initiative raises awareness of the need to resolve international, regional, local and personal conflicts through the non-violence: «It is necessary to travel a new path to face the challenges that we have to live and overcome this stage».

The activity coordinator Carlos Reguera, recalled that in May of last year they gathered 3.500 students in the 2 human chain, an action prior to this World March and tomorrow will be 7.600 students who participate and thus accompany the journey that the "International Base Team" is doing around the world

In addition, the Tower of Hercules it will light blue on Thursday night to illuminate "the future that we have to travel to all the neighbors of our city."

On behalf of schools, the director of the CEIP Concepción Arenal, Shyra Flecha, explained that "our attitude was always to collaborate in all the initiatives that pose a challenge for the students, in order to make them aware of this march for non-violence and, above all, for the peace".

In A Coruña, this action is being coordinated with the "Municipal Education Service", the association "World Without Wars and Violence" and the "Network of schools for Human Rights of Amnesty International".
