Tiburtino and Agro Romano markets

The Farmers Market of Tiburtino and the Farmers Market of Agro Romano participate in the World March for Peace and Nonviolence.

The Tiburtino Farmers Market and the Agro Romano Farmers Market joined today the second World March for Peace and Nonviolence, which began on October 2, 2019 in Madrid and will end on March 8, 2020.

“We couldn't help but join the March” – says Laura, who has a farm near Rome – “thanks to participation in farmers' markets we can continue our nonviolent struggle for a fairer redistribution of agricultural wealth.

The two farmers markets were created precisely to give, with the practice of active non-violence, a strong response to what is the economic violence suffered by small farms because of the current predatory economic system.

They were created by the Future Humanist Association

They were created by the Future Humanist Association, which later became an association of farmers, as concrete tools to stop the economic violence that is increasingly undermining the important human values of our daily lives. For this reason, there are three objectives at the base of each farmers market:

1) Create jobs by giving small farms fair opportunities to sell their products directly.

2) Give people the opportunity to buy quality, healthy products at a good price.

3) Assign part of the market revenue to the self-development projects that the Futura association carries out in Africa.

Create spaces and times of healthy living

Another aspect that brings markets to the March a lot is its nature to create spaces and times of healthy coexistence, of cultural exchanges, where shopping is not only an alienating act, but once peace, pleasure, beauty has been recovered , the sociality of human relationships.

“I am very happy that the farmers at the market have joined this beautiful initiative of the March,” says Patrizia, a lady who always comes to do the shopping, “so I know that I too have done something good and that my purchases will have a different flavor.

We have defended the rights of farmers

“-For ten years, through the creation of farmers markets, we have been defending the rights of farmers both as workers and obviously as people” – says Claudio Roncella, market coordinator and member of the Humanist Movement, – “we have received the sponsorship and recognition of the institutions that have also chosen us as their advisors.

For me, these types of farmers markets are steps towards a humanity in peace and nonviolence, they are a path to a universal human nation.

Meanwhile, the peasants are organizing to welcome the march on February 29, when they arrive in Rome with a big mob, they will realize the human symbol of nonviolence.
