World March passage through Rome

The passage of the Second World March for Peace and Non-Violence in Rome

Rome has shown great adherence to the Second World March for Peace and Non-Violence since its inception, on October 2, 2019, organizing a full-day launch event dedicated to Non-Violence internationally, with protagonists of all ages.

Unfortunately, the passage of the March to Rome, scheduled for February 29, occurred during the Covid-19 epidemiological emergency, so the Roman Promoting Committee preferred to reduce activities, canceling the performances and musical shows planned for the tomorrow at the Angelo Mai Theater that were to be performed by artists of different nationalities, including Pape Siriman Kanouté, Jacob Kennedy, Ousmane Barry, Odiza and the Poor Ambassador, the narrators of the “Acentric” Nonviolence and the students of the Macinghi Strozzi school to give voice to the words of some great figures of Nonviolence.

The afternoon march was also canceled, which, starting from the theater and arriving at the Colosseum, would end with the creation of a human symbol of Non-Violence.

In any case, there were no more limited initiatives and activities, but very inspired and open to the future. In fact, several Roman schools have started a path of education for peace and nonviolence because of their accession to the March.

“Maria Montessori” CI from Viale Adriatico

Among them, we remember the IC “Maria Montessori” of Viale Adriatico that on October 2 created the human symbol of non-violence in its gym with the participation of primary and secondary school students and participates in the cycle of workshops non-violence and multicultural education:

“Non-violence and solidarity: new languages of peace”, made thanks to the volunteers of Energía per i diritti umani ONLUS, the teachers and educators and, last but not least, the girls and boys of the seventh grade classes.

State IC of Via Cornelia 73 - Plesso Carlo Evangelisti

The teachers of the primary school of the state IC of Via Cornelia 73 - Plesso Carlo Evangelisti, on the other hand, have strengthened the peaceful relationships between the different cultures and social environments of their classes through simple gestures, such as sharing snacks in class and games about peace, and then they held a day dedicated to peace and non-violence, in which they collected the peace requests of their students and their students and held a flash-mob.

Here, at the end of the initiative they created the human symbol of nonviolence, accompanied by guitars, flutes, songs and signs with peace written in all languages of the world.

And again, the II of Castelverde, the IC of Villaggio Prenestino, the IC Elsa Scala, the IC of Via Casale del Finocchio, the IC Fregene-Passoscuro, the Fregene nursery school “Il Piccolo Principe Yogarmonia” and, of course, Macinghi Strozzi High School joined the March and carried out peace and non-violence awareness activities, as well as the association “Yogarmonia - Hike and Trekking - Yoga on the way” has made real marches in the March, the last of which left Palestrina to reach Castel San Pietro Romano, just on February 23.

In addition to schools and walkers, the Tiburtino Farmers Market and the Agro Romano Farmers Market in the Tor Pignattara district also joined the Second World March for Peace and Nonviolence.

In particular, on Saturday, February 29, between the music and games organized by the association “CEMEA – Tor Pignattara”, the farmers of the Agro Romano Agricultural Market, the people who were shopping and the families who were in the neighboring park They made the human symbol of non-violence, expressing their union in common non-violent action to stop the suffocating economic violence that unfortunately affects everyone.

The path of non-violence in Rome does not end here, but will continue calm and constant until the next common meeting that will be held on October 2, 2020 with all the activities planned for these days but that we could not carry out and also with much more ... See you soon!
