The documentary “The beginning of the end of nuclear weapons”, in the frame of the 2ª World March for Peace and Nonviolence, it was presented in Paris on Sunday, February 16.
The documentary directed by Álvaro Orús and produced by Tony Robinson of Pressenza - International Press Agency tells a brief history of the bomb and anti-nuclear activism.
It shows efforts to approve a treaty banning nuclear weapons in international law.
The role of ICAN, the International Campaign for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons, giving the floor to strongly engaged activists and the President of the Negotiation Conference of the Treaty on Nuclear Weapons (TPAN), stands out.
The Beginning of the End of Nuclear Weapons received the prestigious “Merit” award at the Accolade international film competition.for showing how countries without nuclear weapons, international organizations such as ICAN and the Red Cross, civil society and academia have faced some of the most powerful and militarized countries in the world” and got 130 countries to vote to adopt the TPAN.
Inspiring exchanges
The public, about 50 people, exchanged opinions with Rafael de la Rubia, coordinator of the World March, and Carlos Umaña, ICAN representative for Central America and the Caribbean, also a member of the International Association of Doctors for the Prevention of War Nuclear.
Participants, including Gerard Halie, of the Peace Movement, and Luigi Mosca, of the Association for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons, actively contributed questions and comments that will be the subject of future articles.
For the treaty to enter into force it is necessary that the ratification process continues: when 15 more countries have ratified the treaty, nuclear weapons will be declared illegal!
The documentary will be screened… in Montreuil on February 22 and in Bordeaux on February 25.
The World March will be in Paris on February 23, in Bordeaux on February 25 and in Toulouse on March 1 before ending its trip on March 8 in Madrid.
