Demonstrations against sexist violence

On 25/11, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, activists of the World March participated in the demonstrations of San José and Santa Cruz, Costa Rica.

In San José, a part of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence delegation participated in the great demonstration that took place on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25).

The Manifestation was massive and full of energy, from indignation, denunciation and the demand of a radically nonviolent society.

Thousands of young people and less young people, dozens of organizations, from rural areas and the capital, street entertainment groups, music and drums.

There were ministers and some minister, representatives of the institutions, our friends of the International League of Women for Peace and Freedom (LIMPAL-WILPF) and also World without Wars and Violence (MSGySV).

The organizers gave the floor to Montserrat Prieto

In the end, the organizers gave the floor to Montserrat Prieto who reiterated the commitment of the World March to the fight for women's rights and reinforced the commitment to convene demonstrations, with the festive tone that characterizes them, the next 8 March 2020 in all the cities where it will pass in its route.

A March through the streets of the city was also held in Santa Cruz de Guanacaste, with demonstrations against violence against women, where the World March participated by joining this great movement, this march ended at the Santa Civic Center for Peace Cruz, where the organizers also provided an official reception to another part of the International Base Team of the 2ª MM.

In the company of the Mayor of the Municipality, as representatives of the Network against Domestic Violence, numerous organizations and a large number of participants, many of them neighbors of the canton who marched there.

The young women of the Network against VIF used art as a form of expression

The young women of different programs developed by the Network against the VIF used art as a form of expression of repudiation of a violent system that the new generations have decided to transform by installing in it the culture of Nonviolence.

The March and cultural events were attended by the Vice Dean of the National University Chororega Headquarters, Doriam Chavarría, who, like the administration of the CCP civic center, undertook the simultaneous 8 of March to carry out simultaneous and previous activities to celebrate the International Women's Day and the conclusion of the 2MM once it has traveled the planet.

Finally they entertained everyone with a delicious popular lunch.

Thus, in a Central America tormented by violence of all kinds and very particularly by sexist violence, in different countries we see a movement for nonviolence from feminism that opens the perspective of a new situation for women in Latin America.
